An increase in number of shootings in West Bank

Militants march during the funeral of slain Palestinian Mohamed Arayshi, 25, in the city of Nablus in the north of the occupied West Bank on August 23, 2022. Arayshi died on August 23 from wounds sustained weeks earlier on August 9 during clashes with Israeli forces in the old city of Nablus. The Israeli military had then said that it had carried out an operation to "secure the entrance of (Jewish) worshippers to Joseph's Tomb in the city of Nablus". The tomb, which is believed by some to be the last resting place of the biblical patriarch Joseph, is a flashpoint for violence in the West Bank, and revered as a holy site by some Muslims. An Israeli statistic stated, on Thursday evening, that about 64 shooting attacks were carried out in the past month in the West Bank.

According to the Jewish Voice of Settlers website, some of these operations took place inside Palestinian cities, indicating that there is concern about the increase in the number of attacks.

It considered that this is confirmation of the settlers’ words of losing security and safety in the region.

It referred to a series of attacks that took place this week, including the killing of a settler in the Hermish Tulkarm settlement, as well as shooting at a base near the Kiryat Arba settlement, and shooting at the Mevo Dotan settlement.
