Israeli police prevented the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem and a priest from the Church of the Holy Sepulchre from entering the holy site to hold Palm Sunday Mass, in what the Latin Patriarchate said was “for the first time in centuries.”
“Both were stopped on their way while traveling privately (…) and were forced to turn back,” a joint statement said.
“As a result, and for the first time in centuries, the Church leaders were prevented from celebrating Palm Sunday Mass at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.” The move was described as “a serious precedent” showing disregard for millions of believers worldwide.
