Trump Signals Kharg Island and Iranian Oil as Key Targets in War Strategy

Breaking | Trump openly positions Kharg Island and Iranian oil in war strategy

U.S. President Donald Trump has signaled that Iran’s strategic oil export hub, Kharg Island, and its energy resources are central to U.S. plans amid the escalating war with Iran, discussing the possibility of seizing or blockading the island, a key node through which ~90 % of Iran’s oil exports flow, as part of efforts to force Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

The Financial Times reports that Trump said securing such strategic points and controlling Iran’s oil could be an option if Iran continues to disrupt regional shipping and energy flows.

While Trump claims negotiations with Iran are underway and has paused some attacks on Iranian energy infrastructure, his comments about options like taking control of Kharg Island underscore a willingness to escalate military pressure, including the potential occupation of Iranian territory and targeting critical economic assets.
