A School Sheltering the Displaced, Struck Again.
Three Palestinians were killed and others wounded on Tuesday evening in an Israeli airstrike near a school run by the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) that is sheltering displaced families in Jabalia refugee camp, north Gaza. The strike is the latest to hit the vicinity of a school-turned-shelter in the camp, a pattern that has repeatedly put displaced families already living in crowded, makeshift conditions at further risk from nearby strikes.
Death Toll Climbs to 73,431.
Medical sources confirmed that the overall death toll from Israel’s assault on Gaza has risen to 73,431 killed and 174,437 wounded since the war began on October 7, 2023. The strike on Jabalia adds to a mounting toll of Palestinians killed in and around displacement shelters throughout the war, with UNRWA-run schools among the facilities repeatedly struck despite sheltering civilians who fled their homes seeking safety. The continued targeting of areas housing the displaced underscores the precariousness facing hundreds of thousands of Gaza residents who remain without adequate or safe shelter, even as the death toll from the broader war continues to climb nearly two years after it began.
