Palestinian youth beaten by settlers and soldiers, detained after entering a Hebron-area settlement

A Palestinian youth identified as Orweh Ahmad Hamamdeh, 26, from the town of al-Samou, south of the southern West Bank city of Hebron, was today beaten by settlers and soldiers before he was detained after entering the nearby illegal settlement of Otanil, according to local sources.

They said Hamamdeh was severely beaten by the settlers and then assaulted and detained by soldiers after entering the settlement.

Israeli reports said an alert was declared in the settlement after a breach was discovered in the fence surrounding it and suspicion of a Palestinian entering the colony. The settlers were meanwhile ordered to stay indoors and to close their doors and windows.

Following the arrest of the Palestinian, reports from al-Samou said soldiers raided the town and broke into and searched the Hamamdeh home and interrogated his family.
