Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Strikes US Military Positions After Alleged Israeli Ceasefire Breach in Lebanon
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard naval forces announced on Saturday that they had struck US military positions in the region, a response to what Iran described as US strikes on its coastline the previous night.
In a statement, the naval unit said the response came after Israel violated the ceasefire in southern Lebanon and after the US broke its own commitments by launching an air raid on Iran’s coast, on the pretext that a ship had passed through an unauthorized route in the Strait of Hormuz. The statement added that, under the fifth article of the Islamabad memorandum of understanding, authority over transit through the Strait of Hormuz rests with Iran, warning that any repeated “aggression” would draw a broader response.
