Escalating Violence Across the Occupied Territory
A Palestinian data-monitoring organization has documented a sharp rise in settler and military violence throughout the West Bank during 2026, recording more than 6,500 separate incidents in under seven months. The toll includes dozens of fatalities, hundreds of injuries, and widespread destruction of homes and farmland.
Homes Destroyed, Families Displaced as Attacks Multiply
Beyond the human casualties, the campaign of violence has had a devastating effect on Palestinian property and livelihoods. Settlers reportedly destroyed or demolished 179 homes and structures, ruined 194 agricultural plots, and set fire to property or crops in 264 separate incidents. Roughly 195 dunams of farmland were bulldozed, while 142 families were forced from their homes under threat, according to the monitoring group’s findings.
According to a report released by the Palestinian information center “Mu’ta,” Israeli occupation forces and affiliated settler militias have committed over 6,500 attacks across the West Bank since the start of 2026 — a sustained escalation that has left a heavy toll on Palestinian communities.
The center’s data shows 25 Palestinians killed and 342 others wounded in the wave of violence. Property destruction has been extensive: 179 demolition or destruction operations targeting homes and buildings, 194 cases of crop and farmland destruction, and 264 arson incidents affecting property or agricultural land. Settlers also bulldozed roughly 195 dunams of farmland, while 142 Palestinian families were driven from their homes under duress.
The violence intensified sharply following an attack by Israeli forces and settlers on the town of Till, southwest of Nablus, in which four Palestinians were killed. In its wake, occupation forces launched a series of raids and arrest campaigns across multiple West Bank governorates. Simultaneously, settlers carried out further attacks on Palestinians and their property, including vandalizing vehicles, bulldozing land, and setting up mobile outposts — while the military tightened checkpoints around Ramallah, Nablus, Hebron, and Jerusalem.
Israeli security sources, cited by Israel’s public broadcaster, warned that the rapid expansion of settlement outposts and agricultural farms has triggered near-daily friction and clashes between settlers and Palestinians in recent weeks, cautioning that continued escalation could ignite the wider region. The sources suggested Israeli military commanders are bracing for the possibility that tensions could boil over.
Adding to the volatility, Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich announced plans to press ahead with settlement expansion, confirming construction of hundreds of new housing units in the Eli settlement as part of a plan to triple its size. Meanwhile, the Israeli military said it was expanding operations in the West Bank, deploying 26 additional battalions. In response, Palestinian factions in Nablus called for heightened readiness, urging local committees to activate emergency and watch mechanisms in villages and towns to confront settler attacks and the ongoing military escalation.
