Israeli Airstrikes Kill Several in Gaza City, Sabra, and Nuseirat as Disarmament Talks Continue

Strikes on Thalathini Street and Sabra.

Israeli forces carried out an airstrike on Saturday targeting central Gaza City, with emergency medical sources reporting one person killed and several others wounded in a strike on Thalathini Street. A separate strike by an Israeli drone hit the Sabra neighborhood in southern Gaza City, killing another Palestinian. In central Gaza, al-Awda Hospital reported ten people wounded after an Israeli strike hit a home in the Nuseirat refugee camp.

Talks Continue Over Weapons and Withdrawal Terms.

The strikes came as Hamas said it continues to engage responsibly and constructively with the negotiation process and mediators’ proposals to complete the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement. In a statement, the movement said a full halt to killing is the essential starting point for moving forward with implementation and setting a timeline for what has been agreed upon, adding that carrying out the deal’s second phase depends on Israeli forces fulfilling all commitments from the first phase. Hamas said its agreement to include the heavy weapons file in the deal was conditional on an end to attacks and a withdrawal from Gaza.
A Hamas negotiating delegation member said Israel will have no role in the process of collecting or storing weapons inside Gaza, insisting that a Palestinian national committee will be solely responsible for that task, and that no steps on weapons collection would happen before Israeli forces withdraw. Sources within Hamas said the two sides had made progress in the latest negotiating round, resolving the file on government employee rights, while talks on the weapons file remain ongoing, with expectations of reaching a final understanding during the current round — one that reportedly limits the scope to heavy weapons only, while a Palestinian national committee would handle collection and storage without transferring anything to Israel or any non-Palestinian party, in parallel with a phased Israeli withdrawal.
