Tens of Thousands of Patients Left Without Options.
The Gaza Center for Human Rights warned that Israeli authorities are continuing to restrict the entry of medical supplies and equipment into the Gaza Strip, entrenching a multifaceted health crisis with direct consequences for the lives of tens of thousands of patients, foremost among them heart patients and dental patients, whose suffering has been worsening by the day without drawing sufficient attention. The center stressed that this continued restriction amounts to an ongoing crime targeting the right to health and life, pushing Gaza’s healthcare system toward complete collapse, even as media attention remains focused on the limited entry of consumer goods while life-saving medical materials — including basic dental supplies, cardiac surgery equipment, catheters, and stents needed for numerous specialized procedures — continue to be blocked.
Cardiac Care Down to a Fraction of Pre-War Capacity.
The center said cardiac patients in Gaza face particularly severe risk, noting that before the war, major medical complexes across the Strip performed between 5 and 8 cardiac catheterization procedures a day. That number has now fallen to no more than 2 or 3 critical cases treated daily, under a harsh triage system that determines who gets a chance at treatment and who is left to their fate. The center added that the targeting of dental care has compounded the crisis further, leaving patients suffering from severe, untreated dental conditions with no access to even basic supplies.
The warning adds to a mounting body of evidence from rights groups documenting the deliberate dismantling of Gaza’s health system through blockade and restricted equipment, spare parts, and fuel — from earlier reports on roughly 650 kidney failure patients whose lives were put at risk by dialysis supply shortages, to warnings over widespread infectious disease outbreaks driven by a healthcare system operating at a fraction of its former capacity. Rights groups continue to call on the international community to press for the unimpeded entry of medical equipment and supplies, warning that further delay risks turning routine, treatable conditions into fatal ones for thousands of patients across the Strip.
