Deadly Strikes on Displacement Tents in Khan Younis
Medical sources in the Gaza Strip reported that Israeli airstrikes killed several Palestinians, including two children, and wounded dozens more, in a series of strikes that hit scattered areas across the southern, central, and northern parts of the Strip overnight and into Thursday’s early hours. In southern Gaza, an Israeli strike on a displacement tent in the Mawasi area west of Khan Younis killed two people, including an 8-year-old girl, and left three others wounded, one of them in critical condition, according to medical sources at Nasser Hospital.
An Infant Killed Without Warning in Bureij
In central Gaza, 18-month-old Zaid Mohammed Nawfal was killed and several other Palestinians were wounded after an Israeli strike hit a residential apartment belonging to the Nawfal family in the Bureij refugee camp, without prior warning, according to medical sources at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital. Journalists on the ground described a violent night for residents across the Strip as intense Israeli strikes hit multiple, scattered locations in quick succession.
Update: Toll Climbs to Six as Bombardment Continues Past Midnight.
According to the latest updates, the death toll from this latest wave of strikes has since risen to six, with Israeli bombardment continuing without pause since midnight through the time of this report. The strikes come despite the ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel that has been in place since October 10 of last year, with Israeli forces continuing to violate the truce on a near-daily basis through airstrikes and gunfire targeting civilians. Since the agreement took effect, the violations have killed hundreds of Palestinians and wounded well over a thousand more, according to Gaza’s health authorities. The broader war, which Israel launched on October 8, 2023, with American backing, has killed more than 72,000 Palestinians and wounded around 172,000 others over two years, alongside widespread destruction that has devastated roughly 90% of Gaza’s civilian infrastructure.
