Sheikh Khader Adnan rises as a martyr in Israeli occupation prisons

Israeli Prisons Authority announced today, Tuesday, the death of Khader Adnan, a leading prisoner in the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement, after 86 days of his open hunger strike in rejection of his arbitrary detention.

According to “Yedioth Ahronoth” newspaper, Sheikh Khader Adnan was found unconscious in his cell and was transferred to Assaf Harofeh Hospital, where his death was announced afterwards.

In turn, the Ministry of Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners in Gaza confirmed in a press statement: “The death of the prisoner, Sheikh Khader Adnan, after a hunger strike that lasted for nearly 86 days, rejecting his arbitrary detention.

In the same context, the Prisoner movement in the occupation prisons confirmed the death of the prisoner leader Khader Adnan.

The Palestinian Prisoners Club had warned of the death of prisoner Khader Adnan (44 years old), who is on hunger strike, refusing to arrest him.

The Captive Club said in a press statement: “The prisoner Adnan” has reached a very dangerous stage, and he is at risk of martyrdom at any moment, especially since the occupation authorities, and until today, refuse to deal with his demand.

And he confirmed that the prisoner Adnan refuses to take the supports, or any kind of treatment, as well as to conduct medical examinations.

The “Prisoner’s Club” continued, saying that “the prisoner Adnan, since his arrest and initiation of the strike, has been under great pressure, in addition to a number of systematic abuses, which he faced during his detention in the cells of (Al-Jalama) detention center for about a month.”

He added, “The prison administration deliberately delays the transfer of the hunger-striking prisoner to a civil hospital, even after he reaches an advanced stage of danger, with the aim of causing him chronic diseases that are difficult to treat and confront later.”

Meanwhile, the family of the prisoner, Khader Adnan (44 years), from the town of Arraba, south of Jenin (Northern West Bank), warned of the deterioration of his health condition, which poses a threat to his life, as he fainted more than once.

Randa Adnan, the prisoner’s wife, said, “The family feels the great danger to his life in light of his continuous strike, and his detention in the Ramla prison clinic, without transferring him to a civilian hospital.”

And she confirmed that Khader refuses to take food aid or to undergo medical examinations, noting that this is a message to the whole world that he is going on strike despite his health condition being affected.

She said, “I will not forgive anyone if my husband died, and whoever could have done his liberation and did not.”

It is noteworthy that the occupation forces arrested Khader Adnan, on the fifth of last February, after raiding his house in Jenin, in the northern West Bank, where he announced his hunger strike at the time of his arrest.

Adnan was arrested 12 times, and spent a total of eight years in the occupation prisons, most of which were under administrative detention.

He went on five previous strikes, four of which were refusals of his administrative detention. During these repeated confrontations, he managed to win his freedom.
