More than 625,000 students today started classes in the besieged Gaza Strip with the start of the new 2023-2024 school year, a week after more than 1.4 million students started classes in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem.
The Ministry of Education said that among the Gaza Strip students are 305,000 attending 448 public schools, about 300,000 students enrolled in 228 schools run by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), and 21,000 students attending 67 private schools.
The total number of teachers reached more than 22,000, including 12,000 in public schools, 9,300 teachers in UNRWA schools, and 1,300 teachers in private schools.
