Hamas Condemns Deadly Damascus Café Bombing, Voices Solidarity with Syria
Hamas issued a statement condemning a bombing that tore through a café in the Syrian capital, Damascus, leaving a number of people dead and wounded in one of the deadliest such attacks the city has witnessed in more than a year.
In its statement, the movement described the targeting of innocent civilians and the terrorizing of ordinary people as “a crime condemned by every standard,” adding that such acts serve nothing but agendas of chaos and destabilization.
Hamas extended its condolences to the victims’ families and to the Syrian state, government, and people, offering prayers for the recovery of the wounded and patience for grieving relatives. The movement affirmed its full solidarity with Syria in facing the aftermath of the attack, expressing confidence in the country’s ability, both its leadership and its people, to overcome the ordeal and preserve its security and stability.
According to security sources, the explosive device detonated inside a popular café on Nasr Street near the Justice Palace in central Damascus during peak hours, killing at least nine people and wounding around twenty others. No group had claimed responsibility for the blast at the time Hamas issued its statement. Syrian authorities said an investigation had been opened to identify and prosecute those responsible.
