Four graves dating back to the Roman era were discovered today during excavation works in the Roman Cemetery located northwest of Gaza City.
The discovery brings the total number of graves found in the Roman Cemetery to 134, with the most prominent being the two lead coffins discovered earlier.
The historical Roman Cemetery in Gaza is believed to date back to the period between the first century BC and the second century AD, making it one of the most significant archaeological sites in Palestine.
A team of archaeologists and heritage preservation experts have been actively involved in restoration and research within the cemetery. They have been using primitive tools for excavation and underground digging, as well as for cleaning, restoration, and maintenance tasks.
