Palestine Prisoners Center: Israel Systematically Targets Palestinian Women, 770 Arrests Since War Began
The Palestine Center for Prisoners’ Studies said Israeli occupation authorities are pursuing a systematic and escalating campaign of arrests and mistreatment targeting Palestinian women, with detentions rising noticeably in recent months.
According to the center, more than 770 arrests of women and girls have been recorded since the start of the war, including 109 detentions in the first half of this year alone.
The center’s statement stressed that the arrest of Palestinian women is neither a new phenomenon nor an exceptional one tied to specific events. Rather, it described the practice as a longstanding, methodical policy dating back to the start of the occupation of Palestinian territory — one that has ebbed and flowed in intensity over the years but has never fully stopped.
The center noted that arrests of women surged dramatically after October 7, 2023, sweeping up hundreds of individuals across all age groups, including minors and elderly women. It called on international human rights bodies to pay closer attention to the conditions facing detained Palestinian women, whom it said face particular vulnerabilities in detention.
