On the anniversary of Nakba: Tunisia affirms its firm and supportive position for Palestinian cause

Tunisia affirmed its firm and principled position in support of the just Palestinian cause and the inalienable and indivisible rights of the Palestinian people, especially their right to self-determination and the establishment of their independent, sovereign state on the 1967 borders, with Jerusalem as its capital.

In a statement today, Monday, on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Nakba, the Tunisian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated the need for the Palestinian issue to remain at the forefront of the international community’s concerns, until the legitimate demands of the Palestinian people are met.

It condemned the systematic targeting of Palestinian civilians and the aggressive practices of the occupation forces and settlers in the occupied Palestinian territories, and its strong denunciation of the repeated Israeli violations of the sanctity of Al-Aqsa Mosque, stressing the need to immediately stop the aggression, provide international protection for the Palestinian people and hold the occupation authorities accountable for their crimes, and force them to stop their settlement activities and plans, and respect International humanitarian law, and ending its occupation of Arab lands, in accordance with the resolutions of international legitimacy.

It affirmed the responsibility of the international community to make the occupying power respect the Security Council resolutions, the latest of which is Resolution 2334 (2016), and to put an end to its disregard for international law and its grave violations against the steadfast Palestinian people.

It called on the international community, led by the United Nations Security Council and the International Quartet for the Middle East, to accelerate efforts to create conditions to facilitate the launch of serious negotiations to achieve a just, comprehensive and lasting peace, according to a specific timetable, in a way that would create a horizon for peace in the Middle East, on the basis of resolutions International legitimacy and the Arab peace initiative.

It affirmed its conviction that a just peace will not be achieved in the region unless the Palestinian right is restored, which can never be forfeited by statute of limitations.

Tunisia thanked the donors for their continuous support to the Palestinian National Authority, the Palestinian economy and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), stressing the importance of providing more support, in line with the growing needs in the occupied territories, especially in light of the occupation authorities continuing their punitive measures, attacks and restrictions on the economy. the Palestinian Authority, and its continued unjust blockade of the Gaza Strip, in addition to the repercussions of the current international crises.

Tunisia renewed its absolute solidarity, leadership and people, with the Palestinian people in their struggle against the occupation, and their readiness to continue providing all forms of support to alleviate the suffering they are going through, until they recover all their usurped rights, including the right to independence, national sovereignty, and the right to return.
