Eleven members of the US Congress called on the American company, “PayPal”, to end the ban on dealing with Palestinians in the occupied territories, while allowing settlers to use the digital payment platform.
The letter, written by Congressman Mark Pocan, accused the company of “discriminating against Palestinians” by denying them “equal access to the digital economy”.
The letter said: We have great concerns given that PayPal provides services to settlers in illegal settlements in the West Bank, but does not provide services to Palestinians living in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, noting that “the company’s current operational status violates the rights of Palestinians.”
It stressed that the company bears the responsibility to ensure that its services and operations are provided in a non-discriminatory manner, as it is one of the most popular payment platforms in the world.
The letter was delivered today to Dan Schulman, CEO of PayPal, signed by members of Congress: Earl Blumenauer, Betty McCollum, Rashida Tlaib, Greg Kassar, and others.
