Israel rejected Jordan-Egypt’s request to reopen gas platforms
Israel rejected a request from Jordan and Egypt to restart Israeli gas platforms and resume natural gas supplies after production was halted following the outbreak of the war with Iran.
Israel’s Channel 12 reported that the refusal was based on security concerns, amid fears that the platforms could be targeted during the conflict, which could lead to losses worth billions of dollars and long-term disruption to energy supplies.
Jordan and Egypt had requested an exception to allow the platforms to resume operations, but Israel suspended their activity at the start of the war, while major energy companies such as Chevron invoked the force majeure clause, allowing them to be released from contractual obligations under exceptional circumstances.
